A History of Facelifting

A mysterious woman arrives in a mysterious village at night. Who is she and why has she gone there? This is the beginning of a weird and wonderful switchback ride which takes us into the very heart of deepest England and events of global importance. The book may begin as a thriller but it turns into something wholly unexpected. Duncan Fallowell's third novel is an outrageous rural fantasy, inhabited by extraordinary people in vivid landscapes, and with at times almost transcendental beauty of expression, yet very much set in the anxieties of our time. Taking something from writers such as Fielding, Peacock, Lewis Carroll, Wilde, Wodehouse and Evelyn Waugh, he blends these influences into a comic masterpiece that is entirely his own and totally, even demonically, modern. Hilarious, dangerous, unforgettable.
