Description
The HC-06 Bluetooth Transceiver Module is a slave-only wireless serial communication module designed for simple and cost-effective Bluetooth integration with microcontrollers like Arduino, 8051, AVR, PIC, ARM, and MSP430. It enables wireless serial communication between two devices using the Bluetooth 2.0+EDR standard.
This module is particularly popular for wireless data transmission, robotics, sensor modules, and DIY electronics projects, providing UART-based communication over short distances (up to 30 feet).
Key Features
- Uses the HC-06 Bluetooth slave module core.
- Compatible with 3.3V logic level, supports direct connection with 5V microcontrollers (no level shifter needed).
- Built-in 3.3V LDO regulator on the backplane; input voltage: 3.6V - 6V (Do not exceed 7V).
- Bluetooth connection status shown via onboard LED indicator:
Flashing: No Bluetooth connection
Solid ON: Connected and serial port is open - Pins broken out for easy connection: VCC, GND, TXD, RXD (LED status pin reserved).
- Default baud rate: 9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity (9600,8,1,n).
- Automatically adjusts current consumption:
~30mA when not connected
~10mA when paired - Supports communication with all standard USB Bluetooth adapters.
Technical Specifications (Bullet Points)

Usage Notes
- Connect directly to Arduino or other 5V logic microcontrollers via UART (no need for logic level converter).
- Works in slave mode only, cannot initiate pairing.
- To change settings like baud rate or name, use AT commands (via serial communication).
- Avoid exceeding 7V input to prevent damaging onboard voltage regulator.
Applications
- Wireless communication for Arduino and embedded systems
- Bluetooth-based home automation
- Wireless robot control
- Serial data logging over Bluetooth
- Mobile-controlled electronics projects
- Remote sensor modules
