The L.V.T. tracked vehicles (acronym for Landing Vehicle Tracked) were developed to equip the U.S. military, army, and Marine Corps with a suitable means for amphibious operations that can offer a good level of protection. Often known as "Amtrac" were used on a large scale in the Pacific theatre, against Japanese forces, but also during the last year of the war on the European theatre. LVT-4 was, in particular, an improvement compared to previous versions. With the redefinition of the design the engine was moved to a central position, leaving the rear of the vehicle free for the adoption of a ramp that allowed light vehicles or small-calibre artillery pieces to be loaded and unloaded quickly to support the landing troops. It was the most successful version with the highest number of vehicles produced.
