After travelling the world for 11 years, I returned to South Africa in 1994, to celebrate the inauguration of Nelson Mandela.
By then my honours degree in marketing from UCT, became worthless. Lost in spirit and soul from years of travel, I was culturally starved. That is until I got involved with the informal trading sector, engaging mainly with the Coloured traders and community, for 30 years.
This book represents the unique talent of the Coloured trader to vend in a spirit unsurpassed anywhere else on the planet. The lolly represents a resilient ethnic cultural group which had to dig deep to unearth a unique entrepreneurial spirit, one which allowed them to create an alternative form of employment during the very challenging times of apartheid South Africa.
