Master and Commander

Set during the early nineteenth century's Napoleonic Wars, Patrick O'Brian's epic, twenty-volume "masterpiece" (David Mamet, New York Times) traces the enduring friendship between Royal Navy officer Jack Aubrey and Irish physician (and spy) Stephen Maturin. The books' sharp wit, heart-stopping action, and exquisitely rendered backdrops have earned millions of devoted fans worldwide, as well as comparisons to the works of C. S. Forester, Jane Austen, and Shakespeare. In the more than forty years since their initial publication in the United States, these "addictively readable" (Patrick T. Reardon, Chicago Tribune) stories have become a beloved part of the canon.

Including volumes one through three--Master and Commander, Post Captain, and H.M.S. Surprise--this first installment precedes the release of the remaining seventeen volumes over the coming year. Every one of these beautifully redesigned editions is sure to be treasured by O'Brian enthusiasts, and will welcome generations of new readers to one of the greatest literary sagas of all time.
