Description
The PCIe to SFF-8643 Adapter is a hardware component that connects U.2 SSDs to a computer's PCIe slot through an SFF-8643 connector. Connecting finger: 1渭.
This adapter effectively splits the PCI Express lanes from the host system into multiple connections, in this case, 2 SFF-8643 ports. This allows for the attachment of U.2 form factor SSDs in a RAID or JBOD configuration. Motherboards and the BIOS MUST support bifurcation; otherwise, only the first drive can be recognized.
The 'X8' notation indicates that it utilizes 8 lanes of PCIe bandwidth to facilitate high-speed data transfer between the motherboard and the connected U.2 SSDs. However, for the adapter to work correctly and split those lanes appropriately, the motherboard needs to have BIOS support for PCIe lane bifurcation. This means that the BIOS must be able to configure the PCIe lanes so they can be divided into separate groups to service each SSD independently.
The PCIe to SFF-8643 adapter is up to four times faster than SATA SSDs, with speeds of up to 32Gbps, providing breakneck read/write speeds, high-speed file access and transfers, and rapid boot times.
