FABRIC SUITABILITY: SUITABLE FOR NATURAL FIBRES (COTTON, LINEN, SILK, WOOL) AND SELECT SYNTHETICS (NYLON, RAYON). NOT SUITABLE FOR 100% POLYESTER, ACRYLIC, ACETATE, SPANDEX, OR LEATHER. IF YOUR FABRIC CONTAINS MORE THAN 35% POLYESTER, USE RIT DYEMORE INSTEAD.

POLYESTER THREAD WARNING: COMMERCIAL GARMENTS ARE OFTEN SEWN WITH 100% POLYESTER THREAD. THIS DYE WILL NOT DYE POLYESTER THREAD, WHICH MAY REMAIN ITS ORIGINAL COLOUR.

WATER TEMPERATURE: REQUIRES VERY HOT TAP WATER (APPROX. 60 C).

APPLICATION METHOD: CAN BE USED IN A BUCKET, SINK, TUB, OR WASHING MACHINE.

ADDITIVES REQUIRED: ADDING 1 CUP OF SALT IS REQUIRED FOR COTTON/NATURAL FIBRES. ADDING 1 CUP OF WHITE VINEGAR IS REQUIRED FOR NYLON/SILK/WOOL.

EVEN APPLICATION: FABRIC MUST BE UNCRUMPLED AND ABLE TO MOVE FREELY. DO NOT OVERCROWD THE CONTAINER. CONSTANT STIRRING/AGITATION FOR THE FIRST 10 MINUTES IS ESSENTIAL TO PREVENT SPLOTCHING OR PATCHY COLOUR.

BASE COLOUR: DYE IS TRANSPARENT AND ADDS TO EXISTING COLOUR. IT WILL NOT DYE DARK APPAREL TO A LIGHTER COLOUR-USE RIT COLOR REMOVER FIRST TO STRIP OLD DYE.

If dyeing fabric with 35% or more polyester, acrylic or acetate, use Rit DyeMore Synthetic Fiber Dye instead. (How-Tos available on the Rit website).

Step-by-Step Instructions (Sink / Bucket Method)
Pre-wash item: Wash clothing in warm, soapy water to remove finishes, oils, or dirt. Leave wet.

Prep the dye bath: Fill a plastic tub or sink with enough hot water (approx. 60 C) for the item to move freely.

Add dye & fixative agent: Shake the Jet Black All-Purpose Dye bottle well and pour into the bath.

For Cotton/Linen: Add 1 cup of table salt.

For Nylon/Silk/Wool: Add 1 cup of white vinegar.

Add 1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap and mix thoroughly.

Dye item: Submerge wet clothing. Stir continuously for the first 10 minutes, then periodically for 20 to 50 minutes until maximum black depth is achieved.

Apply ColorStay Dye Fixative (Crucial Step): Remove clothing from dye bath and squeeze out excess liquid. Fill a clean tub with hot water, add the entire bottle of ColorStay Dye Fixative, and stir. Submerge clothing and agitate continuously for 20 minutes to lock in the black pigment and prevent bleeding.

Rinse & Wash: Rinse in cool water until rinse water runs clear. Wash separately in warm water with mild detergent and hang to dry.
