Cast Iron Care - Please Read

Cast iron requires proper care. It is not maintenance-free cookware.

The pan may develop rust if it is left wet or stored with moisture on the surface. This is normal behaviour for uncoated cast iron and is not the same as damage to a conventional non-stick pan.

To keep your skillet in excellent condition:

1. Wash after use using warm water and a suitable brush or sponge.
2. Do not leave the pan soaking in water.
3. Dry it immediately and thoroughly. You can place it on a warm stove for a short time to evaporate remaining moisture.
4. Once completely dry, apply a very thin layer of cooking oil over the cooking surface.
5. Store in a dry location.
6. Regular cooking with oil will gradually build up the pan's seasoned surface, improving its cooking performance over time.
7. If rust develops, remove the rust, dry the pan thoroughly and re-season it with a thin layer of cooking oil before continuing to use it.

Important: Cast iron handles become extremely hot during cooking. Always use an oven glove, cloth or suitable heat-resistant handle cover when handling the pan after heating.

A Note About Cast Iron

If you're looking for cookware that requires zero maintenance, a conventional non-stick pan may be more suitable.

If you are prepared to look after your cast iron, however, it can become an incredibly durable piece of cookware that can last for decades and potentially be passed down through generations.
