Description

Key CharacteristicsInert & Biocompatible: Because of the platinum catalyst, the curing process produces no chemical byproducts. It is entirely non-toxic, odorless, and free of BPA, PVC, and phthalates. Superior Durability: Compared to traditional tin-cured silicone, platinum silicone offers excellent tear and tensile strength, minimal shrinkage (less than (0.01%)), and retains its elasticity over thousands of uses. Temperature Resistant: It can withstand extreme environments, remaining stable from (-40C) up to (250C) (and sometimes higher depending on the specific formulation). Non-Porous: It is highly resistant to bacterial growth, moisture, and stains. Mold Making: Because it reproduces micro-details with high precision, artists and manufacturers use it to make molds for casting resins, waxes, and low-melt metals. Important Considerations Cost: It is more expensive than alternative silicones due to the cost of the platinum catalyst and the higher manufacturing purity required. Cure Inhibition: Uncured platinum silicone is highly sensitive to cross-contamination. Contact with certain substances—such as sulfur (found in some clays), latex gloves, and certain amines (found in some 3D printing resins)—can prevent the silicone from setting, leaving it sticky.
