19 Year Aged Ripe Pu Erh Compressed Tea Cake

Flavour & Character

• Deep, smooth and mellow profile - earthy, wood-like, sometimes with notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, dried fruit or subtle sweetness.
• Rich, dark reddish-brown liquor that's comforting and satisfying, with a thick, smooth mouthfeel.
• Well-processed ripe Pu-erh avoids overly musty or "wet-pile" aromas. When properly stored, any fermentation "funkiness" diminishes, revealing clean, mellow notes.

Brewing Instructions

Gongfu Style (for full depth and multiple infusions):

• Use: 5-7 g tea (roughly 1/3 of a small gaiwan) for 100-150 ml water.
• Water: 95-100 C (just off the boil).
• Process: First rinse the leaves with hot water ~5-8 seconds to "wake them up," then discard.
• Steeps:1st infusion: 10-15 seconds
  2nd-5th infusions: 15-20 seconds each
  Later infusions: gradually increase by 5-10 seconds as flavour persists.
  
• Yield: Expect 6-10 (or more) infusions from a single portion, each revealing different facets of the tea.

Storage & Aging

Even though ripe Pu-erh is ready to drink immediately, proper storage can help it age gracefully and become even smoother over time.

• Keep in a cool, dry place, ideally at 20-25 C.
• Maintain moderate humidity if possible (around 60-70% RH) - avoid overly dry or too damp environments.
• Store away from direct sunlight, strong odours (spices, cleaning products, perfumes), and volatile sources of smell. Pu-erh absorbs ambient odours easily.
• For long-term collectors: breathable storage (e.g. clay jars, unsealed paper wrapping, or a well-ventilated tea cabinet) can support gradual mellowing. Overly airtight containers may hinder the natural evolution of the tea.
