The Girl from Zaka

Born in a rural village in Zimbabwe, Julieth Gudo spent her early childhood in the city before the loss of her parents at the age of seven changed the course of her life, leading to years marked by poverty, displacement, quiet endurance, and constraint. As a teenager, she left home for South Africa with little more than determination and faith, navigating hardship and uncertainty as she pursued an education that many believed was beyond her reach.
The Girl from Zaka is a powerful memoir of resilience, hope, and transformation. With honesty and grace, Gudo traces her journey from a vulnerable girl shaped by circumstance to a woman who reclaimed her voice through education, perseverance, and purpose-ultimately earning a PhD in Commercial Law from the University of Cape Town and building a life across borders.
This is not just a story of survival but of dignity, hope, and what is possible when courage meets opportunity. The Girl from Zaka will resonate with anyone who has ever dared to dream beyond where they were born.
