Description
This book offers an introduction and overview of the rapidly growing field of Public Humanities across higher education in the United States. It synthesizes work being done across a wide variety of Universities and community colleges, from faculty and students who are engaging communities in humanities research, teaching, and programming.
Divided into six sections, this book begins with a very clear and detailed introduction into Public humanities, theory, practice, history, methods and ethics. Using a broad range of case studies to draw on theory and practice, the book then includes sections on contemporary debates, community voices, cultural preservation, navigating difficult or traumatic experiences, and expanding educational access. It concludes with a detailed glossary covering all the essential and complex terms in the area.
Although drawing on case studies from within the US, these examples offer perspectives and insights relevant to Public Humanities around the world. It will be of interest to anyone working within the public humanities, or wanting to make their work public and engage with wider communities.
