Description
The Uno R3, powered by the CH340 USB chipset, is compatible with the latest R3 version of the Uno, a popular hobbyist development board. It uses an SMD microprocessor instead of the older DIP package found on the original, and offers several additional features.
The Uno R3 CH340 operates from a 5V supply and can be powered by either an external power supply or a USB port. If both power sources are available, the system automatically selects the power source. If using an external power supply, a power supply between 7 and 12V is recommended. Higher input voltages can overload the onboard voltage regulator and may cause it to overheat.
A key feature of this version of the board is that, in addition to the standard female headers for I/O, each female header has a row of holes next to it for soldering male headers, a second row of female headers, or even wires. These holes can be soldered to either the top or bottom of the board. The board comes with a row of male headers, typically soldered to the top of the board, as shown. Soldering the headers to the bottom of the board prevents direct mounting on a breadboard, as the header spacing on one side is not 0.1 on center, and the holes are offset significantly from side to side.
The board also features a series of solder points, providing convenient alternative access to I2C (SCL/SDA), serial (TX/RC), 3.3V, 5V, and GND.
Like all Arduino-compatible boards, it can be programmed using the Arduino IDE via USB.
