WHAT IS DIATOMACEOUS EARTH (DE)?
Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring sedimentary mineral made from the fossilised remains of microscopic algae called diatoms. Over millions of years, these silica-based organisms accumulated in ancient lakes, rivers and seas, forming soft mineral deposits that are later mined and milled into a fine powder. Chemically, DE is composed mainly of amorphous (non-crystalline) silica. Its particles are microscopically porous, giving it a very high surface area while remaining lightweight, inert, odourless and insoluble in water. It is valued for its absorbent nature and ability to interact with moisture, oils and fine particles without dissolving or reacting.

WHAT IS FOOD GRADE DE?
Food-grade diatomaceous earth refers to DE that meets specific purity and safety standards, particularly low levels of crystalline silica and contaminants. It is not a nutrient and does not provide calories, protein or meaningful dietary minerals; the "food-grade" designation relates to its level of refinement and suitability for safe handling in food and feed environments, rather than nutritional value.

For PETS / LIVESTOCK : Traditionally used in animal husbandry as a natural mineral material to support dry, hygienic living conditions when used in feed environments or applied externally.

Use for ORGANIC GARDENING : A natural, non-toxic way to support environmental pest management in the garden and home against crawling insects such as ants, aphids, fleas, ticks, cockroaches, slugs, bed bugs, spiders and more. Does not harm earthworms and may be used in compost systems where mites, fungus gnats or ants are present.

MIND OUR BEES : A better alternative to harsh poisons in your garden which may negatively affect pollinators. When applying DE to plants, avoid dusting flower heads where bees collect nectar. Widely used by beekeepers to help deter ants by dusting around the base of hive stands.

DIRECTIONS : Apply as a dry powder in a thin, even layer to the desired area. Reapply after rain or when the powder becomes damp. Best applied in dry conditions.

CAUTION: Avoid inhalation of dust. Use in well-ventilated areas. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. This product is not registered as an agricultural remedy under Act 36 of 1947.

STORAGE : Store in a cool, dry place. Keep container tightly sealed.

EXPIRY DATE : Diatomaceous earth is millions of years old and does not expire; however, it is highly absorbent and should be kept dry when not in use.
