Description
- Measures total paint or coating thickness
- Detects repainted or repaired areas (especially in car inspections)
- Ensures consistent application of coatings in manufacturing
- Helps prevent over- or under-coating, which can affect durability and appearance
How it works:
There are two main types:
- Magnetic (for ferrous metals like steel) - Measures the paint layer over magnetic substrates.
- Eddy current (for non-ferrous metals like aluminum) - Uses electromagnetic induction for measurement.
Common uses:

- Detailing professionals: To avoid sanding or polishing through the paint.
- Quality assurance: To ensure paint thickness meets specifications.
