Paint Thickness Gauge

A paint thickness gauge is a device used to measure the thickness of paint, coatings, or other finishes applied to a surface-usually metal, plastic, or other substrates. It's commonly used in industries like automotive, manufacturing, aerospace, and quality control.

What it does:

• Measures total paint or coating thickness
• Detects repainted or repaired areas (especially in car inspections)
• Ensures consistent application of coatings in manufacturing
• Helps prevent over- or under-coating, which can affect durability and appearance

How it works:

There are two main types:

1. Magnetic (for ferrous metals like steel) - Measures the paint layer over magnetic substrates.
2. Eddy current (for non-ferrous metals like aluminum) - Uses electromagnetic induction for measurement.

Common uses:

• Auto body shops: To check if a car has been repainted or repaired.
• Detailing professionals: To avoid sanding or polishing through the paint.
